Note that we cannot currently accept any large dog surrenders, as there are no fosters available who are capable of handling large dogs. Please check back in the future.

In accepting surrenders, we use a combination of on-site shelter space & volunteer fosters. We do our best to accept animals in need of home as quickly as we can, but these limitations will affect our capacity for new animals. Animals are accepted in a priority sequence. We are not able to help cats and dogs in all situations; as much as we would like to help every animal, we are just not able to accept every single surrender.

Please read the following before submitting an application:

We only take care of cats and dogs. The shelter facility is exclusively for cats, so dogs are housed entirely with fosters.

We are unable to accept feral cats into our facility. If you are inquiring about a feral cat, suggested organizations to contact are:

    • Telephone City Feral Cat Rescue
    • Etobicoke Humane Society
    • Feral Cat Rescue Shelburne
    • Hamilton Street Cats
    • or Hamilton/Burlington SPCA

Surrendering a pet requires a donation to help offset the cost of their care. A Relinquishment Form/Surrender Form must also be signed when the animal is surrendered to us.

Not all surrender requests will be accepted for admission into our shelter.

We are unable to pickup, transport or trap a stray cat or dog.

We are unable to accept surrenders at the door, as animals must be vetted before coming in for the health and safety of other animals and people.

We are a shelter and have no on-site veterinary services. If you have an animal experiencing a health crisis, please bring them to a vet immediately. We have no way of helping them at our facility.

You may call the shelter for information about surrendering, however shelter workers have no authority to accept or decline animals and will not have the information on the status of your surrender request.  All information is sent to our intake person, who will contact you.  Instructions as to where and when to transport your animal will be given to you at that time if your pet is accepted.

If AAF accepts your animal for surrender, you will need to sign a Surrender/Relinquishment form at the time they are transferred to our care.

We may require up to a week to contact you.

Please make sure all fields are filled out as completely as possible.
